This advertisement, the object, is from a foreign cinema group. It is a simple image with few words, so it is easy for anyone to glance at the ad in passing and get its basic idea, or at least have a chuckle. The basic message behind it is simple: come watch movies at our theater, because real life/reality sucks. Basically, the company wants its audience to believe that their lives will never be as perfect or exciting as those depicted in movies, so they should just come sit in one of their theaters and watch other people pretend to live out the moments that they wish would happen in their lives. The culture represented in this ad is pretty general; it depicts young adults, but the concept behind the scene of romance and fun is something that any person could relate their desires to. The subjects of this ad are two typical young lovers. In this particular ad, the couple is attempting to be cute and reenact the famous scene in Titanic when Jack and Rose stand together at the front of the ship. Unfortunately for the girl, the romance is destroyed when a bird flies into her face. She would have been safer and avoided the disappointment of having her moment ruined (and injury) if she was sitting comfortably in a theater. The advertisement is trying to force the position onto you that you are better off watching movies and remaining in an ideal yet fake world instead of going out and living your life in the real world.

Reality Sucks

This is an amazing work of marketing. What I find interesting is that it is a foreign cinema group. Is that group involved with foreign films or is it just like a standard movie theater, playing all the large hits?
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting if the specialized in smaller independent films but used an advertising campaign that related to large industry films.
This picture made me laugh and the description of it is pretty well layed out. Real-life reality is not so pretty and perfect as to how movies make them ought to be. When you are watching a movie, your mind and imagination sours like how the movie is layed out to be. It keeps you guessing what is going to happen next and which characters serve justice rightfully. After films are over, you wonder: "If only there was a mutant like Wolverine... If only a man like Batman came to anyones rescue when the villian strikes again... If only I met a chick as hot as Megan Fox etc etc etc"... It's true that reality sucks at times and films are a way to let us escape and shut the outside world away for 1 to 2 hours. When it is over it's back to reality and as humans we just have to learn how to deal with it.
