Thanador Chase

This is the scene is
a short video clip of the movie Avatar where the ex-Marine finds himself thrusted into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. You see from the scene the ex-Marine is running and fleeing for his life as the mysterious creature tries to attack and kill him. The scene tried to make me feel amazed and fearful of the Thanador creature since he is trying to kill the Avatar/ex-Marine. I also felt there was also a ‘you put yourself in this situation’ feeling where he entered a new place and was the one who disrupted the peace and put himself in the situation. I felt he disrupted the peace and then tries to kill the innocent Thanador creature that is just doing as nature intended him to, to find prey to eat in order to survive. The scene also made me feel amazed and in awe about the wonderful land the ex-Marine was exploring as he was running through the forest. You are able to see the majestic waterfall he jumps into as he flees and the beautiful scenic view wherever he travels. I felt the ex-Marine was intruding on the beautiful land because he was using his own gun to kill the Thanador. It could be seen how useless and how the weapon was out of place and didn’t belong in the alient planet as the Thanador rips and pulls away the gun after the ex-Marine fires futilely away at him. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, it makes the audience see that he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. The look and sound of the Thanador is very ferocious yet beautiful at the same time. This makes the audience feel that the ex-Marine really does not belong to the alien planet but you also feel a hoping he survives it. It could be seen that the Thanador signifies the alien planet trying to defend itself against the intruders (the ex-marine). This scene just adds to the whole message of the movie, which essentially how one group invades and disrupts an alien group (indigenous or a group that was there initially) to get what they want/need at all costs.

Overall I loved the movie!
