As a car company BMW is very much so pertaining to the male gender. At first glance I don’t know to think if this advertisement is funny or rude. BMW is somehow trying to prove that their car will be more attractive to a man, than a woman wanting sex. This is also very offensive because it shows the man is having sex with a woman but her face is covered with the ad of the car. The woman isn’t attractive enough and the car is the “ultimate attraction.”
The politics of representation is very evident in the advertisement. It shows how men would be rather having sex with the car than with a woman. I have always heard “nothing is better than sex” blah blah. BMW is trying to prove that their car is more attractive to men than a woman would be. That they don’t need a woman if they can look at an advertisement of the car.
We can all relate to the attraction between one person and another. When a person finds another person attractive it can be a pretty crazy thing. It’s weird to think of how a physical attraction can be put into a material item. At this point, I feel that this advertisement is trying to appeal to humor. Everyone knows that men would do anything for sex and only a few men would have an attraction to a car over a woman.
Usually in advertisements, sex sells. This advertisement is the opposite; it is not only attractive people but it is saying that their product is better than sex. You aren’t looking at the sexy people but the magazine over the face of the attractive woman. Showing that the man is not interested in the woman, only the car that is in the advertisement, displays that the advertisement is more attractive to him then the woman he is having sex with.
