Wizard People; The Importance of Harry Potter

The Harry Potter movies have become a powerhouse of income and popularity. The following for these books and movies is such that many have memorized lines from both, dressed up for premier occasions, and taken Harry Potter as a sort of way of life. So I thought this play on a clip from one of the wildly popular movies was quite interesting (as well as entertaining!).

The maker of these videos clearly knows the movie and book well, as he doesn’t skip a beat in his narration of the scenes, and gets the basic idea of the events correct and in order. He changes the names of characters as well as the dialogue to make his video funny for the viewer, basing the humor of the situation on the assumed knowledge of those watching. If an individual viewing this clip did not know anything about Harry Potter, it would be perceived differently, and the viewer may be confused or even slightly creeped out by the voice used to narrate or the actions described. So the maker is counting on some previous knowledge of Harry Potter in order to convey the humor in the parody. I would say that this video argues the position that Harry Potter is an important mainstay in our culture, and is commonly known and enjoyed.

  1. The narrator does a great job of interpreting the book as what most people feel towards Harry's relatives. I like how he refers to Harry as the wolf and the other three as the 3 pigs. He goes in depth with some things and also exaggerates which makes the narration more interesting. The voice is annoying but makes the video much funnier and entertaining. I think I may watch all of his videos now!
