I was always curious whether it is possible to live like a fictional character “Hank Moody” from ShowTime’s Television Series “Californication.” Hank Moody occasionally well to be exact pretty much all the time has one night stands with strange women who he usually encounters in various circumstances. It might not make sense at all in real world, but as long as we keep it in the box, we would be able to examine what Hank Moody stands for in POP culture many people dig in all the time. He is quite a troubled writer who has not been very successful as far as his books are concerned. Sometimes he realizes that he is definitely not in shape but he always gives it a go in order to put himself in better situations not the worst ones he usually ends up with.
It is a perfect and quite desirable character. If I could live like Hank Moody, It would be golden even if he is troubled celebrity type writer who usually messes up a lot of his surroundings. But I would say a lot of people watch this Television series because of the fact that this Television series makes a lot of people to feel like they are the one. In other words, I would say a lot of watchers would feel like they would want to live in a lifestyle that Hank Moody lives in. In a sense, it is a perfect except the fact that he is usually a trouble maker and hurt quite a lot of people’s feeling no matter how he does. Sometimes he is a mover and sometimes he is a heart breaker to many.
So, Can we live like Hank Moody? The answer would be varied but I am saying yes for this. It depends on what we value but I think culture is like a black hole. We can predict what the trend will be even a year from now. Culture has a lot of different things that we might not be able to discover them all.
"culture is like a black hole." I love that because it is so true. Culture not is not only vast in the general sense, but it is different for every individual. Each person has their own specific set of values, thus making each person's culture a little bit different.
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest of your post, I have never seen the show, but it sounds interesting. I think the Hank Moody character can be compared to many different TV series stars, like Sutton and Emma in "The Lying Game" and Blair in "Gossip Girl." They live drama filled, adventurous, stressful, extravagant lives, but still those that watch the shows want to be the characters. We viewers think that what they have is "ideal" and allow the series to create that ideal. Unfortunately some forget to create our own ideals, and live life constantly wishing for something more, when, in reality, they have everything they could possibly want.
