Pregnant Woman

http://www.coolmarketingthoughts.com/images/nova3.jpg

Picture of a pregnant woman who is holding a glass of a non-alcoholic beverage that looks like beer.

This advertisement is showing a woman who is indeed pregnant, holding what looks like alcoholic beverage. The object in this case is the entire advertisement but the subject is pertaining to pregnant women who want to be able to drink things that look and tastes like an alcoholic beverage. My position looking from an outside point of view seems as though they are trying to advertise pregnant women to drink. My automatic reaction to this advertisement is that a pregnant woman is drinking alcohol. Seeing as if I would read the ad I would understand that this is an ad for a non-alcoholic beverage, even though a person’s direct attention goes to the pregnant women holding a cup which looks like beer. This is trying to appeal to pregnant women and is arguing that pregnant women can have drinks like look like alcoholic beverages. The sign that this ad gives off to our culture means that we let pregnant women drink. Even though this is not what the ad is saying our first instinct is to look at the picture then to read the smaller words to the side. This advertisement gives a bad look to our culture. If this was on a billboard not many people would be able to read the words if they were driving by, they would only be able to see the picture.

  1. I think it is about as offensive that the woman is pregnant yet in top physical condition. Her skin is made to look smooth, her body is still thin and curvy aside from her belly. This is not really a great representation of pregnant women in my opinion.

  2. Definitely not a good ad in my opinion. It's like using a picture of a kid holding a cigarette to advertise tobacco-free cigarettes. The image of a kid holding a cigarette (just as the image of a pregnant woman holding a glass of what seems to be an alcoholic beverage) might turn some people off, which is not the purpose of an ad. there are probably more effective ways to advertise non-alcoholic beverages.

  3. I agree that this ad seems inhumane almost...just not good. Don't hate me for saying this, but it definitely made you look twice, right? Also notice how, besides the obvious baby bump, the other body parts are in shape of someone that is clearly not pregnant to make her more attractive? It's good advertising. They're not going for a good message here, they just want you to remember it.

  4. I find it interesting that they put the 'non alcoholic' part off to the very side, and made the letters transparent. It was the very last part of the picture that my eyes were drawn to, and as it is it's hard to look away from the horrific photo-shop work done to the woman (most video games do a better job). I've known plenty of women who have had children and none of them were interested in alcohol to begin with while they were pregnant. Obviously, this picture is attempting to create a trend rather than appeal to one.
